Historique :	Hipp est un constructeur suisse de Neuchâtel qui inventa l'horlogerie électrique, signé Peyer et Favarger qui lui ont succédé en 1889. Dès la fin du XIXe siècle, les observatoires utilisaient l'électricité à des fins scientifiques. Par exemple, les horloges installées dans les divers bâtiments n'étaient que des cadrans esclaves pilotés par une horloge mère grâce à des connexions électriques. L'horloge mère était munie d'un système de contacts permettant de transmettre des impulsions horaires à ces récepteurs distants. Ce compteur placé à l'Equatorial coudé est une de ces horloges secondaires. Il est signé Peyer et Favarger, deux ingénieus ayant succédé en 1889 à Matthias Hipp, le père de l'horlogerie électrique. Il porte le numéro 16301. Le tableau électrique commandait les connexions entre horloges.
