Historique :	Jean André Magnin (1794-1824), peintre lyonnais, fut l'élève de Révoil à Lyon et de Pierre Narcisse Guérin à Paris. Il mourut à Bologne alors qu'il se rendait à Rome pour peindre un tableau commandé par la ville de Lyon. Le tableau représentant saint Benoît va de paire avec celui de sainte Scholastique, sa soeur jumelle. Les toiles auraient été données par la ville de Lyon en 1818. Elles se trouvaient, à l'origine, dans l'absidiole saint Benoît.
