Historique :	Victor Orsel, peintre lyonnais, reçoit la commande de ce tableau de la fabrique de Saint-Nizier, qui le paye en 1818. Il s'agit d'une copie agrandie du Christ de la Transfiguration de Raphäel. L'oeuvre était destinée à remplacer un Christ, copie du Christ des Cinq-Plaies de Raphaël, réalisé par un artiste parisien (peut-être le Christ en gloire de la commande de 1813 à deux élèves de l'atelier d'Antoine Jean Gros).
